Senior Flexonics Pathway Builds Large Diameter Stop Valves
For Mid America Boiler Feed Pump Turbine Exhaust
Most valve manufacturers start with castings or forgings to
produce large diameter shut off valves. Extensive machining
is required to produce the critical dimensions and surface refinement.
The castings and forgings are generally long lead
items.
By drawing on experience in precision fabrication of dampers
and expansion joints Senior Flexonics Pathway (SFP),
developed an innovative disc and seat design that requires
minimal machining of fabricated weldments to achieve valve
performance objectives.
Applying precision fabricating methods, SFP produced these
88” diameter stop valves under contract to Hitachi America
Ltd. for the Mid America Energy plant in Council Bluffs, IA.
The fabrication techniques applied by SFP proved to be a
very economical high quality approach to production of lowpressure
stop valves. Production lead times were considerably
better with this approach than with comparable cast or
forged valves.
