High Temperature Catofin Unit Expansion Joints
Furnished for IBN Sinamtbe Facility
The lbn Sina MTBE Plant in Jubail, Saudi Arabia used
Catofin Unit Technology provided by Lummus. Detail
engineering was performed by Fluor Daniel in Houston,
TX Senior Flexonics Pathway provided the high temperature
hinge and gimbal expansion joints necessary to
handle the large movements generated by the high temperature
Catofin process.
The high temperature hinge and gimbal expansion joints
incorporated floating ring technology for attachment of
the hinge hardware to the pipe avoiding high stresses
caused by differential thermal growth between the pipe
and rings. All the bellows were ply testable design to
insure maximum reliability in service. The high temperature
expansion joints used “hot shell” construction with
bellows designed to operate near the media temperatures.
A total of 34 expansion joints of various designs
were included in the work scope.
